Battery Drain After an iOS Update

DO THIS FIRST

If search/Siri is still optimizing, use the indexing battery page first. After that notice is gone, wait one more normal day on Wi-Fi and power before judging Maximum Capacity.

What you are seeing

Battery percentage falls much faster in the first days after installing a new iOS version.

Why this happens

A new system volume rebuilds Spotlight, Photos, and (on supported phones) Apple Intelligence assets. That work is front-loaded. Apple also notes that feature updates can change power use; see Apple’s battery performance note.

Do this in order

  1. Charge to full once, then use the phone normally for a day.
  2. Settings → Battery. Identify one app or process that dominates. Kill that, not the whole update.
  3. Turn off Background App Refresh for apps you do not need live.
  4. If Maximum Capacity dropped 1–2 points, that is often recalibration, not a ruined cell. See the battery calibration guide.
  5. If drain is unchanged after three days and one app is not at fault, install any follow-up point release. iOS 26.0.1 existed specifically to fix early iOS 26 hardware bugs; treat point releases the same way on iOS 27.

If it is still broken

Drain that continues after indexing, with a healthy battery and no runaway app, is a feedback-to-Apple case. Do not restore as the first battery fix.

Did iOS 27 damage my battery?

An update does not chemically destroy the cell. Short-term drain plus a tiny Maximum Capacity change is expected. A Service warning is a different problem.

Should I turn off Apple Intelligence to save battery?

Only if you do not use it. On supported models it does background work. Disabling it is a preference, not a repair.
