iOS Software Update Not Showing on iPhone

Confirm your model is on Apple’s iOS 27 list, then force a catalog refresh: leave Software Update, toggle Airplane Mode, reconnect to a known Wi-Fi network, and reopen the screen. Do not use a VPN or a captive portal while checking.

What you are seeing

Settings → General → Software Update says your iPhone is up to date, but a newer iOS version has already been released.

Why this happens

Software Update only offers builds Apple is still signing for that exact hardware. A missing row is usually a stale catalog, a profile that pins an older train, storage too low to advertise the payload, or a model that never received the new major version.

Do this in order

  1. Open Settings → General → About and write down Model Name and iOS Version.
  2. Check the model against the iOS 27 compatibility list. iPhone XS, XR, X, 8, and earlier cannot install iOS 26 or iOS 27.
  3. Connect to a trusted Wi-Fi network. Cellular catalogs can lag; public portals often fail Apple’s CDN handshake.
  4. Turn VPN, Private Relay, and any configuration profile off, then reopen Software Update.
  5. If storage is under about 8 GB free, free space first. iOS hides large updates when it cannot stage them.
  6. Restart the iPhone, then check again. If a computer is available, use Finder or Apple Devices → Check for Update as a second catalog.

If it is still broken

A missing update after those checks means the hardware is out of the train, not that the screen is broken. Use the compatibility checker and stop retrying OTA.
