iPhone Won’t Update to the Latest iOS

DO THIS FIRST

Plug into power, stay on Wi-Fi, and ensure battery is above 50% or charging. Then retry once. If it fails again, delete the update file and switch to a computer.

What you are seeing

Download and Install fails, loops, or never starts even though the update is listed.

Why this happens

Installers abort when power, network, signing, or free space checks fail. Repeating the same OTA on the same network rarely changes the result.

Do this in order

Charge past 50% and keep the cable attached.
Use a private Wi-Fi network. Avoid hotel, airport, and school portals.
Delete the update file, restart, and download once.
If the bar stalls for more than 30 minutes with no movement, force-restart, then continue from a computer if the OTA still fails.
Finder / Apple Devices → Check for Update is the next supported path and does not require the payload to fit on the phone.

If it is still broken

A phone that still cannot update over a computer needs Recovery Mode “Update” (keeps data). Restore is a later step, not the first one.

Should I use iTunes on Windows?

Current Windows installs use Apple Devices. Older PCs still on iTunes can update, but a stale iTunes version will fail signing checks.

Is a beta profile blocking me?

Yes. Settings → General → VPN & Device Management. Remove an iOS beta profile, restart, then check again.
