What you are seeing
The iPhone feels hot at idle or while charging in the first days after updating.
Why this happens
CPU and Neural Engine work after a major update is bursty. Wireless charging plus a case plus indexing stacks heat.
Do this in order
- Unplug MagSafe/Qi until the phone is idle-cool.
- Avoid Direct Sun and car dashboards during the first indexing window.
- Check Battery for a single hot app (navigation, camera, a crashed background refresh).
- If the temperature warning appears at idle after 72 hours, install any newer point release and, if needed, reset all settings — not erase — as a later step.
If it is still broken
Idle thermal warnings after point releases and a settings reset need hardware diagnosis. That is not an update-loop problem.
Questions this page actually answers
Is charging while updating dangerous?
Apple expects the phone to be on power during install. Use a known-good adapter and keep airflow around the phone.
