iPhone Restore Error 9

DO THIS FIRST

Reconnect with a known-good cable on a rear motherboard USB port (Windows) or a native Mac port, then retry Recovery Mode.

What you are seeing

Restore stops with error 9.

Why this happens

Error 9 is a USB communication failure during restore. Hubs and front-panel PC ports fail this constantly.

Do this in order

  1. Avoid unpowered hubs and docking stations.
  2. Update the Apple Mobile Device service on Windows if the computer is stale.
  3. Retry Recovery Mode Update once.
  4. If error 9 persists, test a second computer before assuming the phone is at fault.

If it is still broken

Error 9 across two hosts still points at the cable or the phone’s USB interface. That is a hardware check, not a third identical iTunes loop.

Questions this page actually answers

Can software fix error 9?

Only if the host stack is broken. A current Apple Devices install is the software check. After that, it is physical connection.
