TROUBLESHOOTING

iPhone Update Error 4014

DO THIS FIRST

Treat it like a USB integrity failure: new cable, direct port, Recovery Mode, then one Update attempt.

What you are seeing

A computer restore or update stops with error 4014.

Why this happens

4014 is a transport timeout while the device is in a restore state. It is adjacent to 4013 and shares the same first checks.

Do this in order

  1. Unplug other USB devices that share the controller.
  2. Reconnect in Recovery Mode so the computer re-enumerates the device.
  3. Choose Update, not Restore, on the first retry.
  4. If Update fails with 4014 again, try DFU only after a verified backup exists.

If it is still broken

4014 that survives cable, port, and computer swaps is hardware until proven otherwise. Stop looping DFU on the same host.

Questions this page actually answers

Is 4014 different from 4013?

They are siblings. 4014 is a timeout; 4013 is a lost device mid-write. Both start with cables and ports.
