TROUBLESHOOTING

iPhone Restore Error 14

DO THIS FIRST

Use a different cable and port, then retry. Error 14 is a failed firmware write, often from an interrupted USB session.

What you are seeing

Restore fails with error 14 while writing firmware.

Why this happens

The restore wrote an incomplete image. Repeating on the same flaky path produces the same abort.

Do this in order

  1. Delete any incomplete IPSW in the computer’s iOS restore cache and let the app download a fresh copy.
  2. Retry Recovery Mode Update.
  3. If it fails, DFU Restore after you confirm a backup exists elsewhere.

If it is still broken

Error 14 after a clean IPSW and a second host is a device-side write failure. Take it to Apple or an AASP.

Questions this page actually answers

Will downloading the IPSW manually help?

Only if the cached file is truncated. A checksum-complete IPSW on a stable USB path is the actual requirement.
