Cannot Install Update: Insufficient Space

DO THIS FIRST

Delete the partial iOS update file, empty Recently Deleted, then install from a computer. On-device cleanup often cannot free the extra staging space a major OS needs.

What you are seeing

iOS shows insufficient space even after you deleted photos or apps.

Why this happens

Deleted items sit in Recently Deleted. The update file itself can consume gigabytes while still failing. Computer installs keep the payload off the phone.

Do this in order

  1. iPhone Storage → delete “iOS [version]” if listed.
  2. Recently Deleted → Delete All in Photos and in Files.
  3. Offload the three largest apps.
  4. If the warning remains, do not keep deleting personal data. Use Finder or Apple Devices → Update.

If it is still broken

If a computer update also claims space errors, the computer disk is full, not the phone. Free space on the Mac or PC.

Why is this different from Storage Full?

Storage Full is the general disk. Insufficient Space during install is the staging check after a download has already started. Both end at a computer update if local cleanup fails.
